I just lucked on to this fairly rare Palladium needle tin... I have been looking for one for several years.

Very nice tin, Curt, I like it very much as well. Congratulations for having found a unit in such good conditions. May I ask you why did you desire it so much? Just because of its distinctive picture, or does it fit into an almost complete collection of Palladium tins that you own?

Many years ago, a famous tin collector (a lady) told me that needle tins' collecting is much less diffused in the States than it is in Europe. Is it so? As a matter of fact, I rarely see any thread about tins here, and this thread also didn't seem to rise much interest in other fellows.

I have always liked needle tins and was inspired by the book, Grammophon Nadeldosen by Horst-Dieter Linz. Unfortunately, this book is not well known by American collectors, since it is a German book. The pictures of needle tins from around the world opened up a new avenue of collecting other than just the common Victor, Columbia, etc. tins. The Palladium tin was attractive to me because of the swan graphic...

That looks like a very interesting book. Does it have also some texts in English, or is it fully in German?

Are you a serious, committed collector of needle tins? On my side, I am not a collector in strict terms, but on all occasions of a bulk purchase I have kept the tins with a distinctive design or an interesting picture. I very rearely resell them.

I agree that HMV and Columbia needle tins are among the less interesting ones. I always like, however, to look at the broad variety of "theme variations" that obviously offspringed from the Nipper dog. The cat, the dog & baby, the chicken, and so on. It's so amusing...

You have some interesting tins... exactly the type I look for. The book is a must have for anyone interested in needle tins. It is partially in German, but the same pages are also in English. The book rates the rarity of any particular needle tin and it has 1,000s of tins pictured in color... well worth the price.

They're not mine, I've just selected them from a German website. Thanks for the information about the book, I am putting it on my "must buy" list!
