Pathé Frères Question

Could anyone give me a ballpark value on this Pathé or maybe tell me what you would pay for this? I bought an Edison Gem yesterday and am going tomorrow to pick it up and the lady I bought it from just emailed me and said that she has this for sale too if I wanted and to make an offer tomorrow. Any ideas? I don't know much about Pathé's so I don't know where to start. Thanks for the help!

I forgot to mention, it is all original and plays great. Again, I think it looks fine and would like to make her an offer but don't want to offer too much if I could find one elsewhere. Any information on general values or rarity would be helpful. Thanks again everyone!

How are you sure it plays great if you haven't seen it yet?

I haven't got a clue what these go for over there, but do you know if the extra vertical reproducer is included in the deal?
They're not always cheap to buy separately, and are probably worth as much as the machine?
It looks like a nice little Pathé though.

Im not sure if she has it or not. I am just not sure where to even start with regards to making an offer. Any ideas on what to offer for the machine with and without the extra reproducer?

Thanks again!

Hrmm... well, it does look like a nice little turntable... but it is a good question raised because without the adapter the functionality is limited to vertical records.

Personally, as is without the adapter, I would say $100 is a deal and $200 is ballpark fair and above that is up to you.

Just my opinion on what I would pay for this machine... not a reflection of actual value. Others may have a different opinion.

Great information! Thanks very much for the honest answer. I just didn't want to go and offer an unfair price for either party. :)

I must say I was thinking around the $100- $150 mark, but that figure was really pulled out of the air because I don't know much at all about the value of machines in USA. I do know if the same machine was offered on ebay here, it would probably cost me 3 times that much, even without the vertical soundbox, but everything's much cheaper in your country.
I guess you could look at past sales on ebay? If no Pathé table models are listed, I'd look at low end Victor table models in good condition, and offer 25% less if both reproducer are include, or 50% less if it only has the lateral reproducer.
I don't know if that's a very good strategy, but it probably what I'd do in the same situation :)

Depending on the timing some of those table models get no bids at times. But I agree with the range of price. Around here I see upright Pathés, usually those rather small looking ones and generally the asking prices in malls are around 250.00. They had a nice oak one that sat for years in a mall and I didn't purchase it, when I finally decided I might like to have it, it was finally gone, but only because the dealer moved out of the mall. At an auction I would guess an upright would do about 100.00 around here, but not positive.

Great! I appreciate all the replies as I know how leery we can become of throwing out numbers no matter the situation. But your estimates gave me a good place to start so I can make an offer when I see the phonograph today and I thank you all for that! :)
