Can anyone please supply the image of Elgar posing on some steps carrying his HMV portable gramophone. I have seen this picture many times, but for the life of me can't find it anywhere now. It seemed to be originally published around 1931, just before the change-over to the 102. I need it rather urgently for something.

I'm not aware of the photo, but is this the one? Presumably manipulated to change the machine into heaven-knows what, so probably no good for your purposes!

Many thanks, Orchorsol, for your kind reply -- but that is the image a correspondent has sent me while asking what Elgar was holding originally! He was advertising an HMV 101 portable, c. 1930-1931 just before it was discontinued to make way for the 102. Presumably there was a large stock of 101s remaining, so the Gramophone Company thought Elgar's image would help to sell them. I have seen the original picture several times, in magazines and on record covers, but can't find it at all now. Hope someone can provide it. Thanks again.

Eureka! As you can see from the attached I have at last found the source of Elgar and his 101 -- in the August 1931 issue of The Gramophone! This must have been one of the very last appearances of the 101 because in September of the same year the magazine printed a review of the 102.
