A sneak peek of my "off brand room"

Those who know me also know my favorite talking machines are the off-brands, or little known brands, however you want to word them all. . The reason I love them so much is because most collectors ( I think ) pass them up for Edison's, Victor's, Columbia's, etc. Also because they are quirky, sometimes really bad sounding, other times very well made and sounding great. Mostly because they have no factory records - so really no one knows how many were made and actually sold. ( or destroyed ) But they are survivors and I love them, so I made one small extra room in our house just for my off-brand collection. Here are a few - there are a lot more to show off soon, enjoy!

Thanks - I love the Mag-Ni-Phone. The company who made it - Chas. W. Shonk specialized in making beer trays (I have a few)

Very nice collection. I have quite a view of those little off-brands myself. They are great because they are much easier to sneak into the house than a big new upright

Definitely an interesting collection!
The little black phono in the 8th picture (with a 7" Columbia on the turntable) is a Cummings 101, dating from ca. 1923. Several pages from an A.B. Cummings catalog of that year are shown on pages 158-159 of
Phonographica.

The Toy Model 101 was described as "Our 1923 Phonograph Sensation!" It originally retailed at $3.50.
