Hello !

A seller proposes me this pathéphone G. With it more a discobolus decal on its front. http://images.google.fr/imgres?imgurl=h ... 41&biw=896

I have doubts on its authenticity. And I don't find any infos about this model on the Web.

Can you give me more specific information about the Pathéphone modele G ?
Photos or extracts from catalogs are welcome.

Patrick

The picture is not very good, but from what I can see it shows many features typical of a Pathéphone. Here are some pictures of a beautiful Pathéphone Modele G: http://phonographcompany.com/index.php? ... facturer=5. The back bracket and tonearm look different, but still Pathé, It could be a slightly later model maybe, or it could have been transplanted from a different model? The stop lever in the front, the speed control knob, all looks OK. Since Pathé made countless different model variations it is very difficult to find missing parts, so make sure to inspect the machine closely for anything missing and for working condition. Also look for any signs of re-motoring like additional screw holes under the turntable etc. If complete it is a nice and unusual machine.

The straight and the curved arms were contemporaneous, and there are bona fide models with both variations, but the back bracket looks from a later model. Hard to say with confidence as the photo is too fuzzy. The exterior looks authentic.

Thank you very much for your kind reply.

Here's two photos of this Pathéphone G. Is it a real Pathéphone G or not ?

Like Carlos said, it looks to be a slightly different version, but at least from the pictures looks ok to me. Pathé made so many different variations that are nowhere documented, so if it looks right and works I would assume it is correct. To me this looks like a very nice machine from what I can see on these pictures. The model in the link I posted earlier seems to have had a lid, which may be missing here, but that is not a big problem in itself. Look at it closely, check if there are no holes or other signs of modifications, look at the motor if it looks original, complete and works. Then decide if you like it and if you can agree on a price.

External parts are all authentic, and as Andreas points out this model has a lid with a Pathé rooster decal.

The 'G' photo in that link posted by the original questioner, appears to be genuine but as others have already said Pathé made many variations on the same model and to my knowledge little publicly available information is documented.

With that said, I have purchased a machine from this seller before and it had a reproduction part which was not specified in the listing. The seller agreed to a return and refund though for which I was very grateful, even though I lost over £70 in postage costs.
