I did not know Sears & Roebuck sold brown wax cylinder records? (other than branded Oxford)

They sure did - Columbia products. There was an article about early Sears talking machine/record offerings in the June 2014 issue of The Antique Phonograph with full-color illustrations, like these...(click once or twice to enlarge)

Brown Wax cylinders were shown in many of the early Sears & Roebuck catalogs (this would be prior to 1905).

There are some early brown wax cylinders which are so dark they appear black, I ran into one of these several years ago.

I am curious if it plays good? Some moldy cylinders still play nice and loud.
