Edison literature of the time referred to this cabinet style as "Chinese Chippendale." The frieze below the lid was the Chinese influence. Nowadays, collectors commonly refer to these cabinets as simply "Chippendale." :)

Funny when I once told my wife I was bring home a Chippendale she seemed really excited and then when I got home very disappointed, as if she was thinking of something entirely different...

Yes, very few people know that Edison had a long and fruitful relationship with that word, and everything it signifies.

Here is a recently rediscovered experimental color kinetoscope film (we believe it is hand-tinted), from deep (very deep; put on your waders) in the West Orange archives:

Unfortunately this is only viewable within the USA. Apparently there are legal issues to overcome before it can be seen worldwide.

I had the the same problem. Really tired of these corporate copyright restrictions and attempts to restrict on everything.

I think PeterF posted this as a joke? The hulu link takes me to a Saturday Night Live comedy skit featuring a Chippendales dancer audition. It can be viewed on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/Qflfp736qoo
