I have 13 "United Record" records. I tried looking up online but I came up with very little. Is there a data base out there where I can get info for the records I have? Thanks in advance.

This page provides a little information -- http://78records.cdbpdx.com/UR/

As noted, " United bought unused pressings from Columbia Records, punched a bigger hole and pasted their label over Columbia's." You might find some information--recording dates, etc. about some of the titles you have on this page -- http://www.78discography.com/ -- under the Columbia listings.

Interestingly, the United record name was resurrected in the 1950s. There's a listing of these on the discographical page, as well.

Thanks, The second link gave me what I needed. The label on one record was so bad I could not read the title of the song. The first link did not work for me. Thanks again.

I had trouble calling it up too. Here's the Google cache version, which should load -- http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... clnk&gl=us

I did stumble across the first link when I first looked up these records. Your second link helped more then I thought. Some of these records do not list an artist. I was able to find the info at the link. Great info!!

On a related note, anyone figure out a good way to play these? The hole is *just* too small for a 45 rpm adapter.

I took a chunk of soft(ish) plastic drilled the center hold to fit the spindle of my Victrola. Then I turned the plastic down to fit the center hold of the record.

Another way is to place the record over a piece of heavy, corrugated cardboard, and then trace and cut the cardboard to fit the hole. If it's a ten-in record, after you plug the large hole with cardboard, you can position a standard 78 on top of it, and push a pencil through it's spindle hole, to center it properly.
