I have a three drawer chest of drawers. If I find a cabinet mechanical set up, I think I should to place the gear in the top drawer, and be able to use thee second drawer as the sound box, opening it for volume and use the bottom drawer for storing disks. Kapish?

I'm guessing you'd put the motorboard and arm Etc. into the top drawer and build a short horn that points down into the second drawer. Could be workable but maybe not the best sound- I'd suggest putting a slanted board into the second drawer to reflect the sound out into the room a bit.

It has already been done! The British built Algraphone featured a forward sliding volume control panel.

The Algraphone was an expensive bespoke machine, with all the components made "in house". When their Saville Row showroom opened in 1922 the range comprised six table grands, seven cabinet grands and six console grands in period styles.
