Seventy five bucks seems a bargain. Wished I still lived in Washington, DC, and not 2,500 miles away. Except for the back bracket and crumbling sound box, that looks to be in very nice condition.

The VV-4-40 is quite a performer--about on par with the 8-4 based on the ones I've heard--providing everything is sealed properly. I'd love to replace the one I have which is missing the stretcher and had a botched and damaged finish when I got it. (It still has a botched finish, but I'm the once responsible for it, so I can't complain. ) I paid way too much for mine, but the market was inflated at that time--late 1990s--because of all the west coast Orthophonic models that had been exported to Japan. In fact, most models around here were priced at about twice what they're going for now--which is still about twice what they're going for everywhere else.

The buyer will need to invest in a new bracket, and obviously the sound box is a wreck. So maybe another $200-300 to make this one whole?

That's about in the ballpark. The last VV-4-40 I saw in the Bay area, about five years ago, was in similar condition, but without the broken tonearm support. It was was priced in the $700 range.

I wouldn't bother with this one, and I live in the area. It's just too common. Good for a beginning collector, though!
