Hey folks,
New to this hobbie and totally obsessed. I can't find this model in the Victor guide. Is this a talking machine or a fake?
Seller is too vague and the price is low. Ild love to rework this but im not sure what it is. Any opinions?

Despite what appears to be a Victor no. 2 sound box, nothing else about this machine says "Victor" to me. But it does look like a real (i.e., not fake) phonograph, though not Victor. Can you provide a link to the eBay listing?

Agree. It looks like one of hundreds of off-brand portable models sold between 1926 through the early 1930s. At first I thought it might be a Carryola, but I wasn't able to find one exactly like it--with the horn opening in back of the turntable.

Most likely the original sound box (reproducer) either got lost, or if it was made of pot metal, crumbled away and was replaced by a Victor #2 sound box. It also looks like the clamp (or whatever) that held the records in the lid is missing, as is the lid stay.

By the way, the only Victor portables factory-equipped with a #2 sound box that I know of were the VV-50 and the VV-35, both of which are listed on this page -- http://www.victor-victrola.com/new_page_2.htm

If you want to have a machine that plays reliably, a VV-50 is an excellent choice. They are built well and were originally made to be portable and taken on picnics, etc. They have solid wood cabinets and strong motors and parts...

As far as the machine that you pictured... I would pass until I found a good machine.

It just sold. I figured it was an off brand and passed it up. Really happy to find this forum though. Thanks for getting back so quick.

Thanks Curt. I have a VV2-55 and a VV110, but never hurts to snatch up others when the price is right.
The orthophonic needs a new 'ring' to tighten the sound box. It broke into three pieces when I replaced the gaskets, sad day.
Hard to find one for less than a bill.
