Edison P-1 reproducer repair

I picked up an Edison P-1 that's in rough shape, and I'm on the fence about repairing the reproducer. It's all in one piece and sounds okay, but the front casting has lot of cracks in it, especially around the rim. I'd usually go ahead and try stabilizing the cracks with J-B Weld on a more common machine. But, given the relative scarcity of these things, might it be better to leave it as-is and original?

Thanks.

MicaMonster has posted a thread on a P-1 reproducer restoration:

The cracks on the front plate may be of concern, but it would not hurt to consult him about it.

I think talking with him about it is a good idea - I'd read that thread earlier but have some lingering questions.
