How can you tell if a part has been renickled, or a reproduction? Is there a way to find out?

I am not sure, but considering the rarity of the item and the small potential market for repros, I doubt that it would be a reproduction. Do you have any pics?

I guess you are suspicious about the shininess of the nickel. From my observation, it's totally original for that's mostly what it was offered in late production. More, the material used was also switched from brass to steel.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. It just seemed too shiny.

Mine looks like that too, and as far as I know the machine hasn't been 'done'.
