Does anyone know of a source for a one-piece diaphragm gasket for a HMV No. 4 ?

Although I use soft white Exhibition tubing. Although it doesn't look authentic, I find the soundbox sounds better than with the original style rubbers.

Same method I use and I agree. I am experimenting with methods to make the tubing black.

Black magic marker, while somewhat tedious, seems to do a great and permanent job of making the white tubing black, so I think the appearance issue is solved.

Yes, but they aren't a one-piece gasket like original.

Two of us so far feel that the Exhibition type tubing gives better response as well.

I'll try the Exhibition tubing. It can be dyed with either aniline dye or Feibrings leather dye pretty easily.

Count three: I bought a modern one-piece red gasket some three years ago from a seller in England, but I found the gasket too hard and ended up using tubing, with a much better sound. I believe the one-piece replacement stock is depleted anyway, as I haven't seen any for sale recently. The perfect replacement is 2 mm silicone medical tubing. It offers gentle clamping pressure as the original gasket did, But you need to glue it onto the diaphragm before installation, or install a diaphragm of the diameter 2-3/16 inch to compensate for the smaller diameter gasketing. I had considered having these gaskets made, but the set up cost for manufacturing made it prohibitive, especially since the amount of people that would actually purchase a gasket for five dollars, or four dollars, wouldn't make up for the set up cost. Those red rubber washers being sold on the Internet don't work, the hard ones, or the soft ones. If they did people would be raving about them, including me
