another Japanese Victrola phono...

Post by phonophan79 »

eBay Item #270332704313

I wish I had bid as it sold for under $100...

Interesting, here's the "copy and paste" from the ad.

This is a working portable style Victrola Phonograph, it looks like a little suitcase. It looks to be 100% original, but I don't know enough about it to be sure.

A little history. I purchased this from a Japanese antiques dealer at a bazaar held on Yokota Air Base about Oct 2005. I paid about $150 dollars for it.

It has been sitting on a shelf in my basement, and has only been used a few times for the amusement of my children. (My 7 month old love this thing)

I tried researching the model number on the Victor Victrola page on line http://www.victor-victrola.com but I was unable to find any info on this model.

The Model Number is VV J2-10, and the serial is 5249, as listed on a small metal plate underneath the turntable (not pictured).

The reproducer (round thing that holds needle) says "CORONA TALKING MACHINES COMPANY, TOKYO JAPAN" on it with a "No. 300".

I have NO IDEA when it was made, and I hesitate to start ripping it open to see if there is a date on the innards.

It weighs 15.5 pounds, including the 2 phonographs I will include in the sale.

It measures (as pictured in photo) 12" wide, 15.5" deep, 6" tall (when closed), and 18.75" tall (when open).

Since it has a replacement sound box, it's not "100 percent original" of course, but still, a nice looking model, probably patterned after the post-merger VV-2-65 ( http://www.victor-victrola.com/2-65.htm )

Locating the correct Orthophonic style JVC sound box would probably have been a challenge.
