Here's something unique (literally) -- a 6.48 oz. 24K gold medal awarded to Eldridge Johnson in 1901, coming up for auction soon: LINK. Only one other of these medals is known to exist, but not issued to any recipient.

The bullion 'melt' value is about $8,000. The collector value is infinitely more.

What a great item! I can't wait to hear how the sale comes out. I'm constantly amazed at the things that get "found" in our hobby. Makes it lots of fun.

Columbia made a big deal of the various gold medals won by their stuff, both in advertising and on the machines and records themselves. Wonder where they ended up.

Wouldn't be great if a philanthropic collector were to purchase it and donate it to the Johnson Victrola Museum?

Best,

I have no idea who won, but I found this on the auction site. It sold for a pretty large sum! $46,995.
