I read a post recently in the Yankee Trader. The post was for a machine for sale and the poster did not put into the listing OR more easily set up location in the TMF Profile. That was far from the first time that has happened and I want to encourage members to fill out the user profile location field. I think there are many advantages to using the TMF profile location field.Here are a few that spring into my mind.

1. You may meet many new friends because they live in your general area.
2. You may start a community and be able to see and enjoy each others collections.
3. When it comes to buying and selling you can immediatly determine the practicality of item location.

I am surprised so many people have not used Location. You dont have to put your specific street address, I use New England. So if anyone is going on vacation and wants to see collections throughout New England they at least have a starting point as to fellow members in the area they might visit.

In order to provide a location in TMF 1. SIGN IN 2. go to USER CONTROL PANEL 3. look for and fill out the field called LOCATION and your done. Oh yeah and you should always sign your postings - it is a good idea. John

Seconded. If Fran hadn't entered his location (Finger Lakes, NYS), I never would have discovered he lives 20 minutes from me. Of course, Fran might be regretting this by now...

The Yankee Trader section is especially sensitive to location. If I know something is within driving distance, I'm far more likely to consider it than to risk having it shipped.

I have to agree with this as well. I recently discovered a collector in my state I had never met. I still haven't met them in person, but that will eventually occur. But, it is really great knowing at least the general area members live in. And, as for the Yankee Trader it really does make a difference if you know you could get in the car and be there in a reasonable time.

I happen to have an arcane sense of humor: if you're familiar with the Firesign Theatre (a great influence on my generation), you'll know where I live (hint: it's in SE New England).

For those sensitive about revealing their home town, you could give a general location. For example, I live in Albany, Oregon and I might say I live about an hour south of Portland, Oregon. Jerry B.

Good idea! I live about 14 hours east of Portland, (by plane).

Seriously I do agree that knowing members general locations can be quite helpful. I've even had a couple members drop in here on their travels because they knew I was here.
