Just saw an Edison on CL which is just down the road. Then I saw this Brunswick, also just down the road which looks to be in nice condition. Which way do I go?? East or West. Price looks decent on the Brunswick..

I would lean towards the Brunswick, provided that the 2-head Ultona reproducer has not swollen and all the joints move properly. You can play anything on that machine, including Diamond Discs (assuming the Edison stylus is good.)

Thanks. Think I shall mull this over today. I have 12 Edison machines but not this particular model and I enjoy the cabinet work more than playing them Then again out of my 40+ machines I do not have a Brunswick. I've got to stop looking at CL and other auction sites..........

It's hard to give an opinion without photos of both machines. The Brunswick looks refinished to me with questionable results. Jerry Blais

At first I only saw photos of the Brunswick. But after checking previous threads I saw photos of the W&M Diamond Disc. I don't care for the refinish on the Brunswick and the Edison looks original. I vote for the Edison. Jerry Blais

This style Brunswick is a nice machine, comparable to Victor XVI or Edison C-250 / C-19.

The finish has some issues; I concur that it looks like the exterior has "had some work done" as they say Hollywood.


Good machine to have on your wish-list, but for the money, I'd wait for cleaner example.

Thanks for the responses. Probably take a look as this Brunswick Wednesday. What specifically should I be looking for on this tone arm besides the obvious pot metal problems. As I mentioned I do not have a Brunswick in my collection and not at all familiar with all the features of these tone arms. Thanks

Searched the forum and appears these Brunswick tone arm/head can be a real problem. Glad I read up on this.....

Well already to drive the 40 miles this morning to check this Brunswick and I received a Email, Voice mail, text message and phone call that the sellers daughter was hysterical that Mom was selling the machine. This is the second time this has happened Thinking of no longer checking CL. I may inquire about the Edison and if they come off the price may take a look. Cheers
