Lady here has a GEM in decent shape, missing lid, but original horn. Just off the top what are they worth?

I'd suggest you and everyone else that asks for an appraisal also include photos. There's a huge difference in value from a common Model B Gem to a Model E Gem and condition is so important. I'll bet you get plenty of replies with some good photos. Jerry Blais

Agreed...Sorry I have a new computer and worked forever trying to figure out how to save the pic.

Apologies.

It is the GEM on the right. This is all she sent me. I am just trying to get an idea. This is all she sent me, so I cannot tell much myself.

Thank you again.

If it's any help, I'll have this Gem available at our Rose City sale in three weeks. It's a Gem B in good working order with an original C reproducer and original finish. The horn is a reproduction. It's ready to enjoy and the price is $400 including five cylinders.

The Gem in your photo is either a Gem A, if it's a key wind, or a B if it has a crank.

If you are lucky and/or patient or like a project machine you can find something for less. I hope this helps you.

I had an inquiry about selling this Gem. The wood base is actually a replacement. I want to be totally honest.

The Gem pictured on the shelf does not have an endgate, yet it seems to have a crane socket, suggesting it's a rather scarce Model C. This probably wouldn't affect its value on the general antique market, but collectors can attest that Model C Gems don't often appear.

Thanks George, You are absolutely correct. I didn't even consider it being a C. Jerry B.

Interesting! She is asking $300. I still believe that is too high especially seeing your Jerry.

Is the lid missing from the Gem? A missing lid is a pretty big knock but if it's there, it's well worth considering at $300 (even more so if it's a Model C).

No lid.... Thats why I was not keen at that price. She would have to come down quite a bit to make up for that.
