Antique Victrola - $5000
"Antique Victrola, over 100 years old. Still in working condition.
Plays 78 records. (I have some that will come with the player)
Manufactured by Victor Talking Machines of Camden NJ
Initially formed in Philadelphia & Camden in 1900 by Eldridge Johnson & Emile Berliner, the original Victor was not only the first record company to mass produce the disc record (as opposed to the cylinder), but was the first company to grasp and pioneer the concept of an entire industry based on capturing music and magic in the recording studio while reproducing that same feeling at homes across the globe. The modern music and record industries were born and Victor Talking Machine Co. became the first major record company, record label, and producer of turntables in the world."

Well, no point kvetching, but still I dislike plagiarism.

Agreed! I went to the link cited, and I'm at a loss to understand just what the heck this enterprise is all about. Can someone enlighten me on that point? The web site seems particularly lacking in information and detail, to say the least! :o

I feel like whoever owns that linked website didn't do very much research before writing that intro or setting up the website. It all seems very vague, incorrect, and is missing the article "the" in many places. It's very unprofessionally written and fails to accomplish any purpose.

Also, there is this link to their shop, where you can buy a T-shirt that features a cylinder machine, which was most definitely NOT made by the VTMC.

Anyways, I guess these are the people making those cheap Crosley type turntables with the branding "Victrola". It seems like some people got together, somehow got a hold of the rights to use all of these things, and are trying to make a quick buck by utilizing the nostalgic aspect of the Victrola name. Sounds like a scam.....

Maybe they should hand over those rights to people who actually KNOW about the company, and who collect their original products? Just a thought.. :)

Who cares if the image on the t-shirt is correct? It's "artistic licence", where there are no rights or wrongs...
