I'd like to buy another horn for my Edison Standard. I want more volume than I am getting with the 14" witches hat. I see many on Ebay but, It seems risky to have one shipped. There is a crushed 11 panel on Ebay right now that was destroyed in shipping. What would be a good choice for more volume that wouldnt break the bank? I know I'll need a support for whatever I get. There is a black 11 panel for sale locally for $100.00. It has been spray painted black. The end that connects to the rubber tube is damaged but, I could repair it. I dont know what brand it is but, I like the price. I kind of like the looks of the larger witches hats though. Ive seen 23" ? I just dont have any experience with the kind of volume or tone the various styles of horns produce. I could use some opinions. Also,if anyone has something they think I might like for sale, shoot me an email or PM. I dont mind a fix'er'upper. Thanks!

Considering the mentality (or lack of it) of eBay sellers and their ideas of good shipping methods, I wouldn't chance buying a horn online, unless it was from another collector. Also, to correctly ship a horn is an expensive and challenging proposition. Your mention of the crushed horn on eBay is a perfect example...

I have a couple Edison Standard morning glory horns and a front mount original Hawthorne and Shebly crane that fits on the front of the cabinet and goes under the motor board so you don't have to drill holes in your cabinet. Marc.

Try to get one locally if you can, to avoid the transportation risk and cost. You should be able to get a black & gold "Edison Standard" or a generic TCT or other brand horn in very good condition for $125-150. Then you need a crane, repro or original ~$80 - $200.

There are some collectors in the DFW area that may be able to help you, have one on hand or bring one back from a show if you don't want to go yourself. Good luck!
