New to the forum and the phonograph community. I recently began trying to get a brunswick upright phonograph working. First step was to rebuild the spring motor. The inside of the cabinet has a tin tag with model 210 on it and the motor has a "3" stamped on the plate. It is definitely a 2 spring motor. I have the barrel separated but cannot get the middle separating washer off the shaft because of the clip that catches the middle of the spring. I thinking there must a way that the shaft separates but cannot figure it out. It is driving me crazy and I cannot find any information on the internet to help with this motor. Any help/advice would be appreciated. When I look a a parts list for the motor it shows a cotter pin which I cannot seem to locate on the motor which might be the key separating the shaft I am thinking, or maybe I'm going completely in the wrong direction.

Can you provide some pictures? On some motors, there is a set screw that needs to be removed. This screw secures the spring arbor to the spring barrel shaft and must be removed before you can seperate the spring barrels. It is located in the arbor just where it protrudes from the spring barrel. It is usually hidden under old grease, you might have to clean it off to see it. There is a hole in the arbor and the screw is in that hole.

Thank you for the reply. I did find the set screw although it was destroyed form a previous repair I'm guessing. After some work I got it out and the motor is completely tore down and cleaned. One broken spring. Time to order parts now. Suggestions for vendor?
