How well do the 2/4 minute conversion kits work? Were they made by Edison or an aftermarket company? Thinking of looking for on for my Standard B. Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, Edison did release a conversion kit for his two minute machines, although I assume aftermarket options were available as well.

I'm not aware of anyone but Edison making 2/4 conversion kits for any Edison machine, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

The kit sold by Edison works perfectly. It is primarily a replacement for the cluster of gears that sits at the left side of the mandrel, plus a couple of other small needed parts. It's a very quick installation and is usually flawless once installed.

Customers who bought conversion kits were also given the option of purchasing a starter set of 10 "special" 4M records, labeled "Special A" through "Special K" (no "I") for a nominal fee, typically $1. Initially wax Amberols were provided, but Blue Amberols became part of the kit later.

Am I correct that you cannot play a 4 minute with a C reproducer?

Yes, the stylus on a "C" is too wide to fit in the groove of a 4M record.

We warned you this was a slippery slope... but did you listen? Noooooo... Pretty soon it'll be a cygnet horn, then a Music Master, then an oversized flat top carriage for a Diamond B, then... then... then...
