A very nice looking and unique machine. I sure do wonder who made it. I always love odd machines!

When I was young I remember seeing cartoons that depicted a gramophone with the horn coming up out of the cabinet. The only thing I ever saw here in the USA, and owned as a young collector were the much more common "rear mount" Columbia and Victor machines. I thought the type where the horn was separate from the tone-arm and came up from the cabinet was just artistic license. I now know that some non American Victor, all EMG and Expert and now this odd piece prove that the horn apart from the tone arm was not a fantasy of a cartoonist. I also remember in some animated cartoons a record changer that threw the records across the room, now I know even that is based on fact.

The HMV 32 was also made like this:

I've often felt that the Gramophone Co. missed the mark or at least didn't expand upon or fully exploit the possibilities for this model.

If they had offered a modern exponentially tapered horn, instead of the conventional old style morning glory horn, they might have given EMG and Ginn a run for the money for the "Gram-o-philes" or "listeners" market.

These two videos, even with the limitations imposed by the microphone and sound-compression, show what I mean:

Model 32 fitted with an HMV Horn and a 2-spring EMG sound box -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO4v99CVu_w

Model 32 fitted with an EMG Oversize Horn and a 2-spring EMG sound box -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P1trPQYh_s

I agree. I have one of these machines in my refurbish pile and I am working on a taper connecting tube design that "wraps around" the case bottom twice giving it about eight feet in length that will just bolt in place of the stock metal tube with no case modifications.

That might really open up the sound frequency range. Thoughts?

Here I go, hijacking a thread again. Maybe I should change my ID to "D_B_Cooper" on here.
