That is a pretty interesting record. Fuller's band was a competitor of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, but he was louder, somewhat raucous. The clarinetist is Ted Lewis.

The ODJB played music that was pretty close to authentic Jazz (most of the members were New Orleans men) but Fuller's orchestra was more like most white people thought that Jazz should sound like- Fuller made a lot of money playing in fancy cafes. Ted Lewis really never did learn to play the clarinet all that well but he had excellent judgment and by the 20's he was hiring great musicians. Some of his Columbia electrics are great- at least until he starts to sing, then they turn to schmaltz.

Paul,

Li'l Liza Jane is an old U.S.Army marching song I'm told as well. I have a 1920s Harmony pressing of the 1918 Harry C. Brown recording. It's very enjoyable.
