Brazilian phonographs

Post by Andreas Gramophones »

Two Brazilian gramophones restored by me.
Yes, we have national gramophones, manufactured by Casa Edison, a traditional phonograph and record trading company founded by Fred Figner in 1900

Very interesting and attractive machines and ones we don't see in the states. Thanks, Jerry Blais

Wow, nice machines and well restored. I have a friend that lives in São Paulo and he has told me he never sees phonographs in antique stores. I don't think he has looked very hard though. I lived in São Paulo for a short time in the early 1990s and looked but never found things like what you have in your colleciton. You have great contacts and now where to look obviously!

Dan,
It is interesting to know that you have lived here in São Paulo, even if you have briefly.
The city is much more cared for and beautiful in relation to the time that lived here, it is only necessary to clean the River Tiête.
As for finding talking machines around here, it's not so common, but I've found real rarities, including this month's German Art Nouveau gramophone.
Who's your friend? Do I know?
If you have the opportunity to come again let me know so we can meet in person, I want you to know the collection, too, small but very well selected.
A big hug.
Andreas

Nice machines, Andreas, and well restored. These should all be German Parlophons that Figner imported into Brazil and sold with the Casa Edison brand. The motors could give a hint to the provenance.

The second and fourth pictures appear to be German, as mentioned by Carlos, especially with the Starkton reproducers...

One of them, who has the green horn, was like this before the restoration.
