Funny Story
People are kind of funny. A lady called me this morning and said that her Edison C-19 Chippendale would not play and that it needed a needle. Shes trying to sell it and had someone coming to look at it. She was panicking! I explained to her that it did not use a "needle" and offered to come check it out for her. So, I go to check it out and found that the wooden lifting lever for the arm is missing so, she was unable to drop the diamond onto the record. I dig around a little, pull the grille off, and found a box of spare parts which included the lever. Once I installed the lever and showed here how to operate it, it worked beautifully. Such a nice machine. Incredible sound and smooth and quiet operation. Sure wish I had the room for it. For $250.00 including probably 50 disk, its well worth the money to me. Anyway, it was actually a fun morning. Even if I didnt get to bring it home, I had some good "bonding" time with it

Haha! You never know who does or does not know much at all about these machines. Just about a month ago, I went in the Charlottesville, Va habitat for humanity store to see a W-19 (This had been discussed earlier on the forum http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... 14&t=29217) I went in, wound it up, released the brake, lowered the arm, and began playing an Edison disc. They were astounded with the machine! When the disc finished, the shopkeep told me that no one in the store could figure out how to work it, and it had gone unplayed for its whole time there. I didn't go so far as to make an offer, but I suspect it is still there, and I might head back in someday to haggle a bit.

To be honest, if she had asked me a month ago how to operate it, I wouldn't have known! I just happen to has everything watched a video about them. I hard never had any interest in the Edison diamond disk until recently!

Go back and get it. $250 for an oak Chippendale with 50 records is a very good price. Harder to find, and - to me at least - more attractive than the mahogany version.
