I have a beautiful VV-XVI that I bought and restored back in the winter. These are truly the nicest of the pre-orthophonic floor models. With these machines, you essentially get a nice horn model mechanism and hardware in a handsome cabinet.
Congratulations on the find! How quiet does your motor run? I managed to get my motor to run pretty quiet.

Right now, it runs a bit noisily and the springs are 'chunking' badly. It has the double cut spindle and governor, so it will be inherently noisier than the later quad cut gears, but I think it will be pretty smooth when I get it fixed up. Most likely I will install 3 new springs just because.
It has resided for the last 40 years in the same smoke free household and has traveled all over the west coast from southern California to Northern Washington, I was told. The previous owners said the reproducer was bad, but they have been playing it sans the needle tightening screw. Might have had something to do with it.
This is the first time I've seen a tone arm bracket like this. Cool! also has the cast iron turntable, another first for me. It seems the reproducer is original to this machine, but it has the triangular needle hole. I thought it should have the round hole..??

It seems the reproducer is original to this machine, but it has the triangular needle hole. I thought it should have the round hole..??
It might well be the original sound box. It was probably upgraded to keep the machine current when other needle options were available and popular. Jerry B.

Congratulations, that is to me the most esteticly pleasing Victrola. I have an L-door, but hope to be able to upgrade to a VTLA at some point.

Congratulations! I have a mahogany VTLA. I love it and it is definitely a keeper. I have a couple of questions about your machine: does it have the yielding turntable and what is the serial # (if you don't mind my asking)? Mine is s/n 3142 with a license date of Feb. 1, 1907. and it does have the yielding turntable. My Exhibition soundbox has a round hole, is serial #244837 and I believe that it is original to the machine.
I have some ownership history of mine. I do know that it spent most of its life in the same New England town where it was purchased. It changed ownership sometime in the 1970s and eventually was moved to California, then to Florida. The owner was moving again and didn't want to take it, so he put it up for sale on Craigslist, where I found it.
