I have been offered this machine. Anyone knows what it is and its possible value?

According to the tag, it appears to be a "Patent Applied For" machine... What is the asking price? Never have seen one of these before, but the asking price might be an indication of whether it is worthwhile to purchase...

I've seen one of these a few decades ago
it's a Christmas tree stand phonograph
the knobby thing near the engaging lever would support the holder for a (feather) Christmas tree

somewhat like this one from the same time
looking at the machine I see that you can't operate the phono if the tree is installed (could there be a small music box hiding inside?)

I actually took that knob out and there was just a hole under it. No mechanisms and no music box. The phonograph works. The speed control says s -f , so I'd say its British. The owner has no idea of its value. It belonged to his grandfather....

Machine identified!
It is a PHONOGRAM as sold by Symonds' London Stores back in 1905, and is a hybrid machine that
could play both cylinders and records! Unfortunately the turntable and horn support for playing discs are missing. Thanks to Paul for providing the advert scan below.
