Victrola Automatic Brake Sizes

I just acquired a Victrola VV-X phonograph that had the "C" shaped arm for the automatic stop sheared off and got a replacement brake from a VV-80 on eBay. But noticed that the "C" shaped arm was too long and would not trigger the trip pin and returned it. Unfortunately I didn't measure the length. However a forum member was offering me a spare one also from a VV-80 that measures about 2.5" from the pivot point to the edge of the "C". I'm assuming this one will be loo long as well.

After a closer look on eBay I noticed other brakes with what appeared to be shorter "C" shaped arms probably measuring about 2" from the pivot point to the edge of the "C". I've attached photos showing the two types.

I thought the VV-X and VV-80 were very similar and shared the same parts. Does this make sense to anyone and does anyone know if the shorter one will definitely fit my VV-X? I would appreciate it if someone who owns a VV-X can measure from the pivot point to the edge of "C" shaped arm of the brake and let me know the measurement.

Thanks,

AR

Chris, thanks for sending the photos with the measurements. That helps me out. So the distance from the pivot point (along the arm stem) to the edge of the "C" is about 2"..it's not too clear from the second photo due to the elevation of the tape measure...

Thanks, AR

Does anyone one have a spare Victrola brake to sell with the shorter "C" shaped stem that Chris measured to be about 2" from the pivot point to the edge of the "C"?

I've seen them on eBay but folks want too much for them and was hoping to find one from someone in the forum at a more reasonable price.

Thanks!

Chris,

Thanks for confirming the 2" measurement. I'm really surprised how I didn't receive more replies to this automatic brake size issue. I found out that the "C" shaped arm is called a yoke arm and just the arm can be replaced by taking off the C clip located at the pivot point. I needed other parts on my original brake and ended up buying an entire brake with the shorter yoke arm from ebay. And to my surprise it was significantly cheaper on ebay than from the commercial phonograph shops.
