I have several lids that have some labels that are flaking off. Does anyone make reproduction ones that show how to change the reproducer.. Tom B

I have an Edison Standard "D" that needs a "Change of Reproducers" label. Most machines have them torn or missing, Some machines just never came with them originally from the factory when new for some bizarre reason. The Edison Home "D" got a very similar "Change of Reproducers" label as well. I have been bugging and after Gregg Cline for the past few years to reproduce these, and even gave him some .jpg examples to go by. But none were good enough he said without making it a serious undertaking. Gregg said that if he could locate some really good originals that have come off the top lids intact that he would give it a go. Does anyone know anyone with a good removed example that Gregg Cline could use as a scanning example to use as a template to create Reproduction Standard "D" and/or Home "D" Lid labels??? It would really be contributing to the hobby.

As far as I know, Noone is currently making these Edison Model 'D" Standard or Home "Change of Reproducers" lid labels.

As I stated earlier, The Home Lid "D" decal was a bit different than the Standard "D" Lid decal in that the wording was different to reflect a "Home" model instead of a "Standard" Model, other than that, They were almost the same. Today, A lot more Standard "D" Model Phonographs appear to show up more than Home Model "D" Phonographs.

PS: On another note, Did anyone ever find out what the Internal Edison Factory White Chalk Marks mean on the insides of the lids...??!??? As pictured above, One lid has a "30", One has a "40", and and another lid has a "60" written in White Chalk under the insides of the lids. It looks like maybe some kind of internal Counting code possibly, but I'm just guessing.

If you can give me the original dimensions of the label, I can reproduce it. It will end up being printed on aged paper like the original, not a decal and will have to be applied with Amber shellac. That being said, what would it be worth, as it will take some time to produce an exact copy. Give me a fair price to ask and how many people would be interested... if it is worthwhile, I'll spend the time to do it.

I agree, It would have to be done on aged paper, but not the type of aged paper that shows "old cloth" fibers within the paper. The clearer the background, The better. The Original paper I believe had a waxy finish to it I think. I'd definitely say that you'd get some takers on these.

Can Someone grab the dimensions/measurements of their Original Standard "D" Lid Label and provide it here for the forum??


Maybe charge $20-$25 as a start???

Curt I will take at least three and possibly four. If you price them at $ 25.00 it seems reasonable give or take ten bucks. I had one just flaking off in my hands today. I am sure there will be a lot more takers once it is known. It looks like the originals were put on with shellac I have 4 ¾ in long tall and 6 in long. I could be off on the tall as the case is curved. Tom B

I think that you meant to say 4 ¾ inches Wide by 6 inches Tall. No??

The way that you described the earlier dimensions did not make sense.

I think that you need to clarify which side is the longer side so there is no confusion.
