I saw this on ebay. The case looks original. I'm not sure of the rest of the machine? Is it an early crap-o-phone, franken-phone, or a hodgepodge. I had to look twice. Any opinions?

Looks like a junker to me...

Speed control is incorrect plus those back brackets appear on a lot of Crapo phones. I like the rear brackets that say RCA Victor on them . Tom B

yes they were made in the UK in the 70's and 80s , BUT they weren't crapophones , they were well made reproductions made using original gramophone period motors , they worked well and played perfectly and loads were soLd as they were 1/3rd the price of an original machine , they were usurped in the 90s by Indian very poor quality items which were crapophones

Many of these UK machines were made by the late George Fudge (1912-2002). He also made replica Edison horns, cranes and connectors which sold worldwide.

When asked why he hand painted the Edison trademark rather than use a replica decal, he replied that without this finishing touch it would not be a Fudge horn.

So.... it's not a Crap-O-Phone, but a Fudge-O-Phone...

The reason I brought this up, is because the case is real Mahogany, with nice grain. The bracket, elbow, and horn looked hokey to me.

Fudge-O-Phone is as good a name as any. George made no attempt to pass his replicas off as originals.

these weren't made by Fudge they were made in hundreds in London , nice boxes made from old school desks ,
