Victrola 1-70 Tone Arm Bracket

Well, my 1-70's pot metal tone arm bracket finally bit the dust and there's no way to mend the damage. Besides acquiring a new one that is either reproduction or from a donor, is there a machine that uses a suitable replacement. I wasn't sure if maybe the Victor brackets prior to when they switched to the fatter tone arms would be appropriate, or maybe one of the portable models that are at least a little more prevalent than the 1-70.

As far as I can tell, the bracket and tonearm are unique to the 1-70. I'd suggest posting a Wanted ad in Yankee Trader for a donor. I'm not aware of a reproduction being made.

That's what I was afraid of. With the tone arm itself being such a narrow diameter I figured even early style tone arms would not suffice, and the portables of the era are too short for the arch Of the arm. Maybe someday reproductions will become available but as for now I guess you're right and I'll have to find a donor original.

I don't know if this will help, but I did spot one that was sold --
https://picclick.com/Victrola-VV-1-70-W ... 87686.html -- with the disclaimer, "New tonearm support made of magnesium to avoid the pot metal problems."
I see the location listed was St. Johnsbury, VT, so in addition to posting in Yankee Trader, you might want to get in touch with the Victrola Repair Service --
http://www.victrolarepairservice.com/ -- to see if they know anything about it.
I also spotted a post on this forum that says that the back brackets used on the VV-2-60 and VV-2-65 were the same as the one used on the VV-1-70 --

Lastly, this might be too much to hope for --

The 1-70 tone arm support was shared with the 2-60, but not with the other machines. Ron Sitko offers the correct part for a reasonable price.

Thank you OrthoFan for the detailed information. It's been years since I had one of those portables in my possession, but you may be right. I just thought my arm looked bigger for some reason. Thankfully a member got back to me about a part he had that will work. Once I check with a local friend I should garner up something to get this little guy up and turn in again. It lacks in bass with a #4 but I adapted one of my Orthophonics and together with a well sealed horn chamber I get remarkably good results
