Columbia BQ

any insight as to the value of a BQ? looks decent and complete, only saw 1 bad picture and I wasnt able to upload it, anything in particular I should look at?

There's not enough information for me to comment on your Q. I would say that I had a nice Q in the bent wood case, all original and nice, and not one person looked at Union for the $275 asking price. Jerry Blais

I'm far from a Graphophone authority but that looks like a BKT to me and totally different than my Q. I need to check my books to find out more information on a BQ. Jerry Blais

I thought at first also but as I paged further thru the book I saw the BQ, I'm guessing myself

Bottom line... What are they asking? Any Columbia backmount cylinder machine is very desirable... Too blurry to tell, but I think it's a BQT, with the horizontal reproducer. If it is in good shape and reasonable, don't hesitate. Also, look to see if it has a small lever on the right side in front on the mandrel, which would indicate a 2/4 minute version which is better yet...

The correct designation for this machine is a BQ or Rex. It is just like a BKT, but with the horizontal carriage. I'm speculating that these machines were made to compete with Edison machines with the horizontal carriage. If this is a 2/4 min machine, they are pretty scarce. I can't tell by the picture.

Its coming up at auction, wanted an idea what to spend, there is one more picture and it does have that lever

If it is in good working order, under $1,000 would be a deal, obviously less is better... Probably $1,200-1,500 would be top, although I may be mistaken...
