I already have six of these two and four clips machines and had said enough is enough. They range in S/N from the 6000s to 29000. I just could not resist this low S/N machine. It will be the last Edison standard I will get. I just picked this up off of E bay and will spend a month or less restoring it. It is an early standard. Can I get by with a automatic reproducer or should it be a standard reproducer.???? I have an automatic or winged C for it. It needs a new spring and a gear is broke in the motor. Both will be repaired or replaced.. It does not have the holes for a gear cover on the plate and no serial number in the knife edge. Tom B

I saw that auction! It was very tempting to bid because of that super low serial number.
Once its restored, it will make quick friends with your other early Standards. Glad it went to a good home!

Tom,
I think an automatic would go great with it....unless you have the rare standard reproducer! Will look forward to seeing the completed machine.

here are a few of pics of the repair. The base plate came out nice with about 75 percent of the striping intact. I had to strip the case and add a reproduction bottom. The case was too far gone to save. The spring was bad and had to be replaced. There was a few stripped screws on it and the governor bearing was bad. The motor had a loose gear. I also screwed up the automatic reproducer getting to get it out to work on the carriage. The two clip carriage that has only one screw is missing the wheel and it with the reproducer will have to be sent in to get the broken screw stubs out along with a rebuild. This thread will be left in the case to document what was done.

Great job restoring it. I never saw a Suitcase Standard with a carriage with 2 screws. That is really unusual. I have seen these on Early Suitcase Homes, but not Standards. Are the Governor wights brass or steel? It was sure worth the effort, what you did.

The weights were steel darn it. It had a weird noise vibration problem which took me a while to solve. It was a slightly bent second gear pin. It caused a small vibration but after a while I got it. It was a first for me.. I enjoy solving those problems Tom B
