Brunswick Blake collender stylus

I just picked up a Brunswick floor model phonograph. May I ask a dumb question please? It has a regular 78 needle but what is the other stylus for when rotated? Thank you
Vertical cut discs such as Pathé. Sapphire ball shaped stylus. They also sold ones that are "pointed" for Edison discs, but they're not very "nice" on them!
