The Philipps Pianella was considered to be one of the most desired orchestrions in Europe during the period of time that they were built in the factory in Bockenheim, a suburb of Frankfurt, Germany. Had this instrument been imported to Wurlitzer in the United States, it would have been sold as a Mandoline PianOrchestra similar to the Style 27-B model. This instrument was purchased from a collector in Bern, Switzerland. According to the restorer who brokered the sale, the Pianella was ordered with specific height requirements. Thus this instrument is approximately eight feet tall. It is an early Pianella. The instrumentation is as follows: Piano, Mandolin Attachment, 30 Violin pipes, 30 Violin/cello pipes, 30-note wooden xylophone, 13 orchestra bells, Bass Drum, Cymbal, Tympani, Snare Drum, Tambourine. The Pianella was was imported from Switzerland November/December 2000. It has a good number of original rolls and will play Wurlitzer Mandolin PianOrchestra rolls.
