What parts are needed to convert a Home A to a 2/4 minute machine? Thanks

You need the mandrel, feedscrew, pulley/planetary gear assembly, shift lever and a few small parts. It might be easier to find a 2/4 min. machine than to buy the conversion parts. The same parts will fit either a Home A or B but not a C. The mandrel and shaft assembly is different because the C uses a center bearing rather than an endgate.

Thanks Jim. I was afraid that the conversion would get to expensive to make it worth my while. Probably best to buy another Home with the combination attached already but, I dont have room for another machine.

Keep your eyes open. A few years ago I bought a complete model B Home with the combination attachment for under $200. It was in rough condition and not running, but everything I needed was there.

There is a piece of crap conversion kit on E bay # 311991766244 ( I hope ) my eye sight is failing. It is $ 50.00 buy it now. You will have to do a lot of cleaning on it. It has the 2/4 switch on it too. It is the whole Home B plate that was found in a barn. Look at it closely and good luck. I recommend a lot of Kroy oil. Tom B

here is a link to that auction:

Pretty rusty. I would be concerned that the feed screw and half nut threads would be too pitted to get smooth tracking. A lot of work to get these parts clean...

Yeah, I saw that one but looks too far gone to me. My machine is minty so, I wouldn't want to put anything on it that wasn't in nice condition. Thanks for the link though!

Can the mandrel from a 2 minute machine be exchanged with one from a 4 minute? Im just talking about the part that the cylinder slides on to. Thanks

Did Edison ever publish the instructions for installing a combination attachment on the Home phonograph? All I can find are for the Standard. Thanks
