That's too bad being gutted. I never saw a Cheney art model before. It really beautiful and has lots of class.

Yes- Cheney would either pair them up or put them at each end of the longer cabinets. I think it was because the Cheney horn design didn't scale up.

This would be a ridiculously crazy price for a working phonograph, but it's an insane price for "a unique liqueur cabinet."

Such a shame,. It would have been a beautiful machine. Some people think if it is old it is worth a lot of money. I do not think it would be worth $4000 complete. That sure would make a nice phonograph. That cabinet is superb.. tom b.

I'm not sure why you folks are criticizing this person's asking price. Per the ad Earl posted, Cheney was asking $600 for this model in 1924.

"What cost $600.00 in 1924 would cost $8577.61 in 2016."

The seller lacks the phonograph, so he knocked over $4500 off the price, and he's willing to take offers.

So what's your beef?

An enormous amount of work. The tone arm, turntable, motor & other fittings - of which a Cheney has many - can be found, but you'll be paying. You'll need to recreate the entire wooden horn system and the fretwork. It could be done, but you'd be spending thousands....and end up with a machine that might fetch $500 on a good day

That's the "beef"... Cheneys in mint condition won't sell for one fourth of the asking price... no matter what the modern equivalent of the original selling price might be.
