I recently purchased a Victor 18 with and electric motor. The motor works fine when by-passing the switch. So I am assuming the switch is the problem. Before I take it apart and get into real trouble is there anyone out there who has repaired one of these switches.

Not to pick nits, but there's no such thing as a "Victor 18." It's a "Victrola 18" (XVIII). Victors have external horns, while Victrolas have internal horns. In this case, there's little chance of confusion, but all too often those terms are misused with the IV and VI - which exist in both forms and are vastly different machines. It's a good habit to avoid.

If the motor runs fine without the switch, you likely have some corrosion or contact not "making" somewhere in the switch. There were a couple of different versions of those switches, but you should easily be able to identify contact points and clean them. That would be my first step and see if that solves your problem. I had a 8-30 once that would intermittently just shut off. A ten minute clean and burnishing of the contact points cured it.

OK,OK, My apologizes I am sorry I did not get the lingo right. The Machine is a Victrola XVIII in Circassian walnut with an electric motor. I have cleaned the contacts on the switch and the plug to no avail.

Wow, what a beauty!
You might find it easier to use a multitester to determine where your switch isn't making contact.
I hope you post more pictures!

What Bob said. You may have a broken wire that isn't visible, so the meter would help there. I have an XVI with this same switch, they're pretty basic.
