AMBEROLA V RESTORATION UPDATE

Hi All
Last year I found this oak Amberola V for $200. It was in rough shape. The finish was shot. The veneer on the lid was lifting and curling at the front and back. The veneer on the crank side was all warped, split and lifting. I was able to re glue and flatten all the veneer issues. I stripped the remaining finish off the cabinet. The finish on the two grills and the inside of the lid was still very nice so I left that alone. The trick was to match the new finish to the old. The original finish was a dark oak with a reddish tone. I was able to match this closely by applying a coat of dark oak stain followed by many coats of amber shellac. The machine plays very well. The reproducer is still stuck in the carriage. I tried putting it in the freezer but it didn't work. I will leave it as is for now but will probably sent it off to Steve m for repair in the future.
