More information about members interests/addictions

Dear all,

Might it be helpful and if so is there a way to encourage members to expand thier profiles much more especially/specifically regarding thier interests and addictions? For example it would be interesting to pereuse through the members list and find people who's interests are very similar to one's own. This could also be helpful in replying to a post.

I must admit even my own profile is very general regarding my interests although I would not hesitate to add more specific information. Just did not think about it when I joined. I do believe though that providing most info should be optional to protect the privacy of those who just prefer not to share.

Looking forward to your comments!

Bruce

Bruce,

That’s a very good suggestion, and I’ll have to take it when I feel less like a zombie. The MordEth Insanity Insomnia March (as conducted by Sousa?) continued as I worked on a couple of projects that ended up keeping me up all night.

I know that I have enjoyed talking to a few of our members about some of their diverse interests (other than phonographs), and definitely, the profile already has space for some of it.

Thanks for suggesting it.

No, I think that march was by Edwin Franko Goldman, but I could be wrong! :D

I agree...I have many more interests some people might remember, such as radios, cameras, and typewriters, just to name a few. I'll have to update my profile, then!

I haven't even filled in that part of my profile. If I did, I'd end up with a profile 3 pages long :)
I pretty much am interested & collect anything antique/old, and I do mean anything. You could probably name just about anything you would have found in a house 80-100 yrs ago, and I'll most likely have at least one. I haven't got a kitchen sink yet, but I've got a kitchen washstand with enamel jug & basin until one turns up. There's probably enough stuff to fully furnish 3 houses- Victorian, Edwardian & Art Deco.
To give you some idea what a horder I am, I have to keep my jewelery box under my bed, because it's actually a blanket box!
Unfortunately because I've been living with & looking after my mother for the last 10 yrs, most of my stuff is packed away under the house & in my 20 x 20 shed,& it's from the floor to the ceiling.

This is a few pictures of my parlour/sitting room & dining room in a house I was in, before I moved back into mums.

Shane,

You're too modest with those photos. There's nothing like video to tell the story.

Gonna go work on my profile too.

Jack,

Thanks for linking that video; I’ve watched a number of Shane’s YouTube videos, but I had not seen that one. The one that he made demonstrating how to remove and reinstall a gramophone spring was quite good, in my opinion, and may very well be helpful to a lot of people.

Shane—If you have any more videos or photos of your collection, I (for one) would be interested in seeing them, although one of these days I’ll have to show you how to edit so you don’t feel the need to apologize for your lack of it in your videos. ;)

Edited or not, they’ve been enjoyable for me.

Not everyone can do photo montages like Jack does. :D
