Is it actually oak? It doesn't look like the oak I am familiar with.

Being an unusual German myself, I really like it.

Although I would be afraid my cats would fall in or that someone would use it as a waste bucket.

Well, it does prevent the spouse from putting flowerpots or bric-a-brac on top...

Well, if you look closely there is a cover over the horn when it is not in use. Plenty of flowerpot possibilities.
