Hi All -
I have run out of leather cord for the friction brake pad for Victor machines. I found some 5.0mm Solid Leather Cord that should work, but it is rather expensive. Anyone have a good source for this material?
TIA,
Mark

Round sewing machine belt, otherwise you can get pieces from the usual parts sources (Ron, George, etc.)

I have tightly rolled the leather pulley belting and pressed it in the brake. It works great.

I've actually used bits of an old belt. Not super elegant, but hey it works! If I had a bullet brake however, I'd purchase the actual thing as this solution isn't for looks

I bought a VV-XII at the last Sranton auction. It has a bullet brake and when I checked the machine out after bringing it home I discovered the brake leather was too short to contact the turntable edge. I pulled the leather out of the tube, wadded upa small piece of paper, shoved it into the tube then reinserted the leather. Works like a charm.

I am good for several years now. $2.99 shipped for a Sewing Machine belt 70 inches long from Amazon. Thanks for the input. Saved me about $15.

If you find that the diameter of the belt is a tad too big, just roll the piece you need between two hard boards and you can "squish" the diameter down enough to fit. Then, squeeze the ends of the leather with a plier to "re-expand" it. And, don't forget to soak it with a little oil when you're done. That will help it last a long time.
