The machine is badged as a Gramola, but is it? The Gramola name was used by HMV for some machines sold in Austria and Germany. It was also used briefly in the UK on a bottom of the range table model known as the 90, which was available from about 1923 to 1926..

Being aimed at the lower price market and sold through wholesalers rather than accredited dealers, Gramola machines did not usually carry the HMV trademark, so this portable needs to be viewed with some scepticism. I do not recognise many HMV components from the pictures in the listing.

I have a "Polyfar" portable, which uses the same arm, motor and autobrake as this one. It also has the HMV trademark with the German wording, "Die Stimme Seines Herrn". Fortunately, mine doesn't have the woodworm holes in the lid!
