I'm looking for a newer type tonearm and cartridge, a type that uses a stylus rather than a steel needle, or a record player deck I can remove the tonearm from

I've got the remains of a homemade electric gramophone, essentially a homemade case with a 30's HMV electric motor in, the tonearm is missing, so I want to fit a newer type tonearm and have a turntable for all my 78's I can play through my hifi

I'm based in the UK but does anyone have anything?

Hi Alex - I might have an old record player arm deep in storage but it will be an age before I can get to it again, sorry! You might be able to find a dud record player cheaply near you on eBay/Gumtree/Preloved. I probably don't need to tell you but the cartridge is likely to be u/s (although you might be lucky) and a decent replacement isn't cheap - BSR SC12M or H is usually recommended (unless you have a phono input and want a magnetic cartridge, in which case you'd need a somewhat more hi-fi arm anyway).
