Herzog half barrel restoral

I just completed the restoral of a Herzog half barrel cabinet. I bought the cabinet at a good price but didn't realize the bottom portion was pretty much falling apart. I had to remove the bottom and reglue and build it up from the veneer layers up. The inner layers of the plywood had been stapled!!! The Forums own maginter turned new feet for me and I stumbled into a reproduction bale at the Wayne show. Lots of hyde glue (I am now a convert to hyde glue, It's good stuff.), clamps, and some creative use of stain and a little shellac yeilded good results. Assembling and stamping the cardboard tubes took an entire day, go figure. I learned some lessons here.

I put a lot of hours and some coinage into this one, but it was fun and I am happy with the results. The pictures below show the before and after. For a more detailed chronicle of the process, I have more pictures posted here: http://picasaweb.google.com/tivoman1/Herzog#

Brad, That's a beautiful job! Every time you show your work, I am really impressed at your talent. I have trouble doing a decent job of cutting out a new felt for a turntable!!

Congratulations on a first class restoration of that Half Barrel Herzog Cylinder Cabinet. I takes so much dedication, patience and skill to do that, and you are to be commended for your efforts. Does anyone know the difference is current price between the Herzog Half Barrels and the Herzog Full Barrel cabinets? The Half Barrels surface quite often, while you seldom see the Full Barrels come up for sale.

This is a very fine result. How did you fill minor losses of the veneer?

Thanks all for the compliments. There was only one small missing venneer piece on the door that is about the size of a firefly. I did nothing other than color the sublayer to match the finish on the surface. If you are up close, you will see it missing, if you just look at the cabinet it is pretty well obscured.
