If the motor runs and the tonearm moves freely in all directions, it's a perfectly fine project for $50. Having said that, the lid clearly needs a lot of work or perhaps replacement.

The tonearm is almost certainly pot metal, which swells and freezes in place over time. If you can't move it easily, it can be a bear to fix.
