Here is what $200.00 and 4 hours of driving gets you

I saw this on Craigslist this morning, an American Walnut Victrola VV-120, (same as a late VV-XVI). I was the first to respond, so I got first shot. The finish is original. The wood is book-matched nicely figured American Walnut. The motor is quiet and strong. The plating and finish are excellent. I bought it from a non-collector that told me that his father-in-law enjoyed it, but he had no use for it. I eagerly paid him his asking price. I am partial to Walnut and Oak, so for me, this was a very nice opportunity. Maybe not the rarest machine around, but I love it just the same.

Please excuse the poor lighting and iphone photos.

Well worth the time and money. I would have jumped on it too. Congratulations. It's quite beautiful.

A nice machine is a nice machine... and this one is VERY nice! :o

Congratulations !

That finish looks almost mint.

Keep it away from heat and sunlight.

You did very well. :geek:

:coffee:

(Not too long ago, I spent that amount, and 8 hours driving RT to pick-up a "nice, but not quite so nice" VV-XIV in red mahogany...)

Congrats! What a lucky opportunity for such a magnificent machine! For me, American Walnut Victrola's are under-appreciated gems. Although most of us recognize and appreciate Circassian walnut machines, they can sometimes be a bit idiosyncratic or even over-the-top. The warmer hues and interesting graining of the American Walnut pieces gives them an un-equaled and reliable richness and elegance. Even at more commonly seen price levels, the American Walnut machines seem to me to be a very good investment.

Nice! I scored something similar yet not quite as well this weekend. I'll start another thread on it at some point today. That Walnut really pops!

Congrats!
