As a reformed, former cat owner I can answer the question-- Cats don't take commands, they give them.

I have three machines that serve me as "display only": a Columbia AH and Victor Monarch Jr., which (particularly the AH) are just too hard on records to be comfortable, and a Pathé Model 0, which simply did not turn out to be a practical machine. (Spent too much for the last one and would never recover it; probably should start a thread "What were your biggest machine mistakes?")
Anyhow, they all sit on a long, high shelf over a big bank of record shelves. I assigned each an animal "mascot" for the display. The choices for the Victor and Pathé machines were obvious, but what for the Columbia? After a bit of thought, I came up with an answer. Looking across the shelf from left to right....
